Rowing Geelong Winter Sculling 2024

Starting Sunday June 9th
At Corio Bay Rowing Club. 8:30am
Great Winter training
Entry fee : $8/day / $50 season

Through the generous support of Rowing Victoria, the series is open to all members of RV affiliated clubs. It will kick off with our “Round the Island” Time Trial over 3km, and the following week we contest Machine Gun Sprints (2 X 500m). These are to help the handicapper establish boat speeds so that over the following 6 Sundays, handicapped start races over 1500m can be held.

The entries will be divided into racing boats and tubs with heats of approximately 8 competitors. The goal of the handicapper is have all 8 in a race finish at the same time! Points are awarded for participating over the first 2 weeks and then points are awarded for finish position. The highest points score in Tub boats and racing boats will be the Series winners.

The final event of “Geelong Winter Sculling” will be the Scullers’ Head of the Barwon, a 4.5km race from Queen’s Park to the finish of the Barwon Mile – also handicapped but against the speed of the World Champion in your category. (Referred to as Prognostic Speed Handicapping)

Following each day’s racing, all competitors and supporters are welcome back at Corio Bay Rowing Club for a celebratory drink, complimentary toasted sandwiches, heat awards and point score.

The series presentations will occur at the post race festivities for the Sculler’s Head of the Barwon.

The Geelong Winter Sculling Series is open to RV affiliated (racing) members. Competitors not members of Corio Bay Rowing Club are requested to organise their own boats. CBRC members should request boat use from the Rowing Committee. (Captain@coriobayrowing.com)
