Imagine the contemplation of those remaining at Corio Bay Rowing Club after forty-six of the club’s most youthful depart for war; the European (Great or WWI) War of 1918.
Now imagine the anticipation and full range of emotions of those 46 leaving the club, work and home for foreign lands. It is understood thirteen will pay the greatest sacrifice while defending the cause.
We will remember them.
In 2015, it is difficult to comprehend life of these times but on Friday November 27, commencing 6:00pm
at CBRC Club rooms, we will be given a little insight, via a ceremony unveiling the Club’s recently restored European War (1914-19) Honour Board shield.
The ceremony will include a brief synopsis of many of the members listed on the shield, regarding their ages, occupations, and family links, as researched by Rod Hall. Master of ceremony will be Vice President Paul Hargreaves.
The Club is grateful for the support of the Department of Premier and Cabinet for assistance, through its “Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour” Grants program.
Drinks will be available at bar prices. Please bring nibbles as per the tradition of Friday End of Month drinks.
Members and Guests all welcome.
